Shutdown Support; Immediate Actions
Shutdown Support & Immediate Actions
June 11, 2025
Dear Silver AFA Flight Attendants,
Waking up to the news that our airline has shut down—so suddenly—is heartbreaking. There are no words that can fully ease the shock, the sadness, or the uncertainty you may be feeling right now. Please know: you are not alone.
You’ve given your heart to this career. You’ve flown through storms—literal and figurative. You’ve cared for others in the skies, stayed calm during chaos, and made countless sacrifices. The loss of your airline is not just a job loss—it’s the loss of a flying family, of routines and routes, of a piece of your identity.
We want you to pause and take a breath. This moment is hard. And you’re allowed to feel it.
But know this too: you are strong, resourceful, and deeply valued. The training you’ve completed, the skills you’ve honed, the empathy you’ve shown, and the challenges you’ve overcome have prepared you for what’s next—even if that path is still unclear.
Now is the time to lean on one another. Reach out to your fellow flying partners, your union, your support systems. Share resources, exchange leads, tell stories, cry together if you need to.
Immediate actions you should take today, June 11:
- Download or request W-2 tax forms or 401k details before you get locked out of the systems
- Forward the email/letter of shutdown from the company to your personal email address for unemployment purposes
- Documentation of health coverage loss and date of health coverage loss.(You will need documentation for purchase of other coverage.)
Our union is working to get answers to the following questions:
- Final distribution date of paycheck
- Owed vacation time status
- Health insurance denial claims
If you are interested in applying for another airline, please let us know and we will do everything we can to help you get an interview/hired.
Our union EAP, and community are standing by to walk with you through this. AFA EAP Flight Attendant volunteers are reaching out to each Silver AFA Flight Attendant over the next 48 hours. If you need guidance with unemployment, job transitions, or emotional support, your AFA EAP is always available at 800-424-2406.
You are AFA. Your wings were never tied to one airline. They are yours. And you will never fly alone.
With deep respect, solidarity, and love,
Your AFA Silver MEC & AFA International Officers
Amelia, Shonda, Eric, Sara, Keturah & Dante
